Rudolf Buchbinder, pianist

Born in 1946, Rudolf Buchbinder was the youngest student ever (at the age of 5) to be admitted to the Vienna Musik Hochschule. He began his comprehensive musical activities first as a chamber musician and later as a soloist. He has appeared throughout the world with renowned orchestras and conductors and has been a regular guest at the Salzburg Festival as well as at all other major festivals.

Rudolf  Buchbinder has an extensive repertoire and he attaches considerable importance to the study of sources. His many recordings attest to his diversity as an artist, and the recording of the complete piano works of Josef Haydn has awarded him the Grand Prix du Disque. In recent years he prefers live recordings. One of Rudolf Buchbinder's major concerns is the performance of Beethoven's 32 Piano sonatas as a cycle. He has already performed this cycle in its entirety in over 30 cities, including Munich, Vienna, Hamburg, Zurich and Buenos Aires.

Since 2007, he has been the Artistic Director of the Grafenegg Festival in Austria. Mr. Buchbinder enjoys literature and fine arts and is an impassioned amateur painter. He has previously appeared with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
