Born in Cologne, Germany, Christiane Oelze studied with Klesie Kelly-Moog in Cologne and with Erna Westenberger in Frankfurt and attended masterclasses given by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. She has toured Europe, the USA, South America and Japan, performing a repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary works.
In the concert halls she has sung with the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, the Oslo Philharmonic and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others, under such conductors as Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Herbert Blomstedt, Riccardo Chailly, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Carlo Maria Giulini, Kurt Masur, Kent Nagano and Sir Simon Rattle.
Her festival appearances include Salzburg, Lucerne, Glyndebourne, Mostly Mozart, Edinburgh and Tanglewood. Christiane Oelze has performed a variety of roles at major opera houses including the Bavarian State Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Paris Opera. Her discography reflects her operatic and concert activity. From 2003 to 2008 she taught at the Robert Schumann School in Dusseldorf.
This is her first performance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
