Tal Rockman was born in England and immigrated to Israel in 1974. She holds degrees in Musicology and Special Education from Tel Aviv University. She started working at the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 1990, and since 1999 has been an IPO Librarian.
Tal translates texts from Hebrew and English, and writes and edits articles and programmes for orchestras and other musical organizations. Together with Milka Laks, she wrote and edited texts for a series of concerts entitled “Robert and Clara Schumann - Johannes Brahms: A Love Story in Music and Letters”; a programme of Brazilian music; a programme of works by Mozart, celebrating 250 years to his birth; a programme of gypsy music and others.
In May 2004 Tal made her debut as narrator at the Abu-Gosh Music Festival, in a programme entitled "In the Green Pastures of Ireland, Scotland and Wales", which combines Celtic folk music with folk-song settings by Beethoven. Tal also translated Beethoven’s songs for this programme, which was performed by singers, the "Evergreen" Ensemble and musicians from the IPO. Since then she has enjoyed appearing as a narrator in various programmes, both in English and in Hebrew. Tal is the mother of Na'ama Lia, born in 2007.
