Daniil Trifonov, pianist

Biography
Daniil Trifonov won medals and the Third Prize at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw (2010), the First Prize at the Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv (2011) and the First Prize and Grand Prix at Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (2011). In 2013, he was also awarded the prestigious Franco Abbiati Prize for Best Instrumental Soloist by Italy's foremost music critics. Prior to that, he received awards at the Scriabin Competition of Moscow and at the San Marino International competition, and received a Guzik Foundation Career Grant in 2009. Since then he has appeared worldwide with major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, London Symphony, Mariinsky Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony, Melbourne Symphony and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Valery Gergiev, Charles Dutoit, Vasily Petrenko, Ginanandrea Noseda and others. In the 2016-17 season he was Capell-Virtuos with the Staatskapelle Dresden, which included concerts at the BBC Proms, Salzburg Easter Festival and Vienna's Musikverein. Recital engagements have taken him to major venues throughout Europe, the USA and Japan and his festival appearances include Verbier, Edinburgh, Lucerne, Salzburg, Blossom and Ravinia. Daniil Trifonov is a noted chamber musician and performs regularly with artists including Nicholas Angelich, Sergei Babayan, Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon, Yuri Bashmet and the Pavel Haas Quartet. Born in Nizhny Novgorod in 1991, he began his musical studies at the age of five. He studied at the Moscow Gnessin School of Music in the class of Tatiana Zelikman, before pursuing his piano studies with Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has also studied composition and continues to write piano, chamber and orchestral music. His recordings have won a Grammy nomination and the ECHO Klassik (2017).
