Olesya Petrova, mezzo-soprano
Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Olesya Petrova graduated from the class of Professor Irina Bogacheva at the Saint Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in 2008. She won second prize at the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition (2007) and the International Galina Vishnevskaya Competition (2006) and was a finalist at the Cardiff Singer of the World (2011). The 2011-12 season marked her international breakthrough at the Zurich Opera House. Since then, she has toured in Europe, the USA, South America, Australia, Korea, China and Japan. She has appeared at the Metropolitan in New York, Arena di Verona, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Greek National Opera in Athens, New Zealand Opera and Opéra de Montreal, among others. In the concert hall she has performed a varied repertoire ranging from Bach and Pergolesi to Mahler and Prokofiev. Her festival appearances include Sanxay in France and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Italy. Olesya Petrova has been a soloist with the Saint Petersburg Conservatory Opera Theatre since 2007 and is a sought-after concert singer with many Russian orchestras and chamber ensembles. She has collaborated with distinguished conductors, including Fabio Luisi, Gianandrea Noseda, Daniele Gatti, Valery Gergiev and Vladimir Fedoseev. This is her first appearance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
