Ziv Stein

Ziv Stein, born in Tel Aviv in 1992, has been playing with the Israel Philharmonic since 2017. In addition to his work with the Philharmonic, Ziv frequently performs with various European orchestras, ensembles and festivals. He has been invited to play as a guest principal timpanist with notable orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France in Paris, Les Dissonances, the BBC Symphony in London, and the Oslo Philharmonic. As a percussionist, he has played with the Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin, Staatskapelle Berlin, Deutsches Symphonie Orchester, and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Ziv is also a member of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, the West Eastern Divan Orchestra, and the Boulez Ensemble in Berlin. Ziv commenced his musical studies in Israel under the guidance of Alon Bor, who also was a member of the Israel Philharmonic. Ziv earned his Bachelor’s degree from The Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Daniel Druckman and Markus Rhoten from the New York Philharmonic. Ziv continued his studies in Berlin, where he obtained a Master’s degree from the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik, studying with Rainer Seegers and Franz Schindlbeck from the Berliner Philharmoniker. He also received an Artist Diploma from the Barenboim-Said Akademie, studying with Dominic Oelze from the Staatskapelle Berlin. During his studies Ziv was continuously supported financially by the America-Israel Cultural foundation.
