Recently appointed Chief Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai (from the 2023-24 season) and Designate GMD of the City of Cologne and Gürzenich-Kapellmeister (from 2025-26), Andrés Orozco-Estrada regularly conducts leading orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Dresden, Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Orchestre National de France, Chicago Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has also conducted concerts and opera performances at the Berlin State Opera and the Salzburg Festival with outstanding success. Between 2014-2022 he was Music Director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and between 2020-2022 Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. His CD releases include Stravinsky’s The Firebird and The Rite of Spring with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, concert recordings of Richard Strauss’ operas Salome and Elektra, a Dvořák cycle withthe Houston Symphony, and all the Brahms and Mendelssohn symphonies. Born in Medellín, Colombia, Andrés Orozco-Estrada began his musical education by playing the violin, receiving his first conducting lessons at the age of 15. In 1997 he moved to Vienna, where he was accepted into the conducting class of Uroš Lajovic, a student of the legendary Hans Swarowsky, at the renowned Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst. In October, Andrés Orozco-Estrada will take up his professorship in orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna.
