Avital was born into a musical family: her father served as principal timpanist of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra for 44 years, and her mother is a pianist and a piano teacher. From an early age, she absorbed orchestral culture through daily attendance at rehearsals and concerts of the orchestra. She studied with Prof. Ilona Feher and Prof. Haim Taub, and later earned an Artist Diploma at The Juilliard School of music in New York, studying with Prof. Dorothy DeLay.
Avital was a yearly recipient of scholarships from the America – Israel cultural foundation, as well as at the Juilliard school.
Avital has performed and participated in numerous chamber music festivals festivals in Israel, Europe, and the United States, and has been active in chamber music since the age of 12. She began her orchestral career at 18 as Principal Second Violin of the Kibbutz Orchestra, and at 19 was appointed Concertmaster of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. After several years, she joined the Munich Philharmonic, performing under the baton of the legendary conductor Sergiu Celibidache. Since late 1994, Avital has been a member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2004, she joined the Israel String Quartet alongside her husband, violinist Yigal Tuneh- former concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
